The phrasing here is based around the playing of the amazing T Bone walker and BB King.

Elvis Presley – Can’t help falling in love fingerstyle

Hi all,

Here is my first post to this blog in a while. It’s been a busy year so far after the arrival of a baby boy at Christmas time. Lesson’s are as busy as ever, so fitting in time to make videos hasn’t been as consistent as I would like, hopefully that will change.

So here is my finger style cover of ‘Can’t help falling in love’ by Elvis Presley. My wife walked down the isle to this song so it’s a pretty special song to me. You may notice I have a new guitar! I bought this second hand 1995 Gibson J30 from the shop I teach above, for those that don’t know it’s Trevada music in Camborne, Cornwall. It’s a players guitar and has been used over the last twenty years a fair bit, it sounds great and I shall be using it in some more videos. I think it’s a keeper.

See you soon 🙂

Mas Que nada with some improvising

The sun is shining in Cornwall today and i’m getting ready for guitar lessons. There has been so much going over the last year which is partly why my blog hasn’t been updated in ages. I aim to update this weekly and cover some of the things I am up with to with private and school tuition as well as gigs.

Firstly here is a lit clip of the song Mas que nada, I am playing a Sigma OOO15 that I purchased at Trevada music as well as my trusty Eric Johnson Fender Stratocaster into a Marshall 1974x.

Here is to a good week folks

Sigma LM-SG00 ‘Golden era’ Guitar Demo

I have had the pleasure of owning and playing quite a few Sigma guitars. I first came across them when I was living and teaching the guitar in Brighton, a student bought in an old dreadnought that was made in the 70’s (I think) and it sounded and played beautifully, it was based on the Martin 000. Since they relaunched the brand I have bought a few, why I sold them I do not know but thats how it goes.

I thought I would make a little demo of the lovely Sigma LM-SGOO which appears to be based on Gibsons version of the Marting 000. This guitar is so much fun to play, although it carries a price tag new of £475 it is worth it. If you come across one make sure you check it out.

Over and out,

Darren

1989 MIJ Fender Telcaster ramblings

Hi all,

Once again it has been a while since I have updated the blog, its been a very busy year so far and I have plenty of videos and pictures to gradually start loading onto the blog.

I am now back in to the full swing of lessons at Trevada music now that the summer is over.

Here is one of the videos I have recently put together, most of the videos are going to be first take improvisations using various guitars and amps. In this video I am playing a 1989 50s reissue Telacaster which i have just sold, it one the highly regarded Made in Japan models and sounds great, I am playing into a lovely Two rock studio pro 22.

Hope you enjoy 🙂

New Videos on youtube for CGL lessons

I have started the process of getting some videos together for students to use as a visual aid along with there lesson sheets. This one was great fun, a little cover of ‘Come over’ by Royal Blood. Played on a Joe Trohman Squier Tele through a Backstair HT5C amp that is now used for lessons at Trevada music.

Check it out!

Joe Trohman Telecaster mini video

So I posted a little review of my recently purchased Joe Trohman Squier Telcaster the other day, if you haven’t read it, pleas do.

Here is a short video of me playing some blues licks through my Fender Hot rod deluxe III along with a keeley modded TS9 tubescreamer. I recorded it on an iPhone, so it isn’t the best quality. I love this guitar.
